Pearce to reach milestone as Roosters host Bulldogs

July 29, 2015 by Kevin Moody

Canterbury Bulldogs forward James Graham is tackled by Jared Waerea-Hargreaves of Sydney Roosters

Two NRL Premiership contenders face off on Friday night when Sydney Roosters face Canterbury Bulldogs at Allianz Stadium. The Roosters have found form to settle in to a spot in the top four, while the Bulldogs will look to get their push back on track following a loss to the Sharks last weekend.

The Roosters are unchanged from last Friday’s heavy defeat of Wests Tigers. Brendan Elliott has impressed during the enforced absence of Shaun Kenny-Dowall and retains his place on the wing.

The Bulldogs will be without Josh Reynolds, who may miss the rest of the regular season with a knee injury. Moses Mbye has demonstrated already this year that he is a more than capable deputy in the halves, and will have a chance in the coming weeks to stake a claim for a starting spot should the Bulldogs maintain their place in the top eight.

Usually dominant with their forward pack, the Bulldogs will this week come up against a team who can match them man for man. The Roosters will then look to make the most of their considerable attacking talent in wide areas.

This match sees a significant milestone for Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce, who will become the youngest ever player to reach 200 first grade games. At just 26 years of age Pearce looks well set to go on and join the prestigious 300 club.

Sydney Roosters v Wests Tigers

May 8, 2015 by Kevin Moody Leave a Comment

Sydney Roosters will be hoping to bounce back into form following four consecutive losses when they host Wests Tigers at Allianz Stadium. The Roosters welcome back Aidan Guerra from a broken jaw as they try to avoid losing five in a row for the first time since 2011.

The back to back defending Minor Premiers are languishing in 12th place on the ladder following their poor run of form. However, those the Roosters have suffered those four losses by a combined total of just 15 points.

The Tigers lost Tim Simona during the course of the representative weekend, but they do get Keith Galloway back from injury. They have a poor record against the Roosters, with only one win from the last ten meetings, but go into this clash eight places above their cross town rivals on the NRL ladder. New coach Jason Taylor will be keen to prove his credentials against the club he served as an assistant prior to landing his job at the Tigers.

Sydney Roosters v St George Illawarra Dragons

April 25, 2015 by Kevin Moody Leave a Comment

The ANZAC day clash between Sydney Roosters and St George Illawarra Dragons is one of the highlights of the NRL calendar. This year’s game has extra significance as it falls on the 100th anniversary commemoration of ANZAC Day.

Games of two-up can be played in the Sydney Plaza in the build up to kick-off. The ANZAC trophy will be delivered to the middle of the pitch by helicopter.

The Roosters were dealt a blow this week when they lost key forward Jared Waerea-Hargreaves to a pectoral injury.

Sunday showdown for Souths and Roosters

March 14, 2015 by Kevin Moody

Sydney Roosters players tackle Luke Keary of South Sydney Rabbitohs

Another tough battle is in store when South Sydney Rabbitohs and Sydney Roosters clash on Sunday

Historic rivals South Sydney Rabbitohs and Sydney Roosters meet in a rare family friendly afternoon clash at ANZ Stadium. The two clubs have taken all of the major trophies between them over the past two seasons, and after significant departures during the close season they will look to display their credentials for the 2015 campaign.

Games between these two sides are always intense and Sunday will be no exception. The current balance of power lies with the Rabbitohs having beaten the Roosters in last year’s preliminary final, avenging defeats in Minor Premiership deciders in 2013 and 2014.

Questions had been asked of the Roosters regarding their ability to hold a place in the top four without the likes of Sonny Bill Williams and Anthony Minichiello. Those questions were answered in emphatic fashion with a dominant display against the Cowboys in Townsville.

South Sydney will also have been pleased with their display against the Bronco’s, following on from impressive outings at the Auckland 9’s and Club World Challenge. Already, after just one week of the season, there are many who are now tipping this as a potential Grand Final in October.

Rabbitohs fans are encouraged to arrive early at ANZ Stadium for the chance to get a photo with the NRL Premiership, World Club Challenge and Auckland 9’s trophies. Head to aisle 128 where the silverware will be on hand from 1.40pm until kick-off.

All pre-purchased tickets include return rail travel to Sydney Olympic Park.
