Spieth returns to Sydney for Australian Open defence

November 19, 2015 by Kevin Moody

Jordan Spieth holds the Stonehave Cup after winning the Australian Open

Defending champion Jordan Spieth is returning to Sydney for the 2015 Australian Open. Since lifting the trophy at the Australian Golf Club last year Spieth has gone on to win his first two major’s, narrowly missed out on a third at The Open in July, and risen to the top of the world rankings.

Spieth won in Sydney in 2014 thanks to a memorable eight under-par round of 63 on the final day to fend off the likes of Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott. Scott has also confirmed his participation in the event, with the former world No.1 looking for his first win in the Australian Open since 2009.

There will be plenty of top European talent teeing off in Sydney as well, with the likes of Nicholas Colsaerts, Paul Lawrie, Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke confirmed for the event. Westwood is himself a former world No.1, as well as a previous winner of the Australian Open.

The Australian Golf Club is hosting the tournament for a record 19th time in what is the 100th edition of the Australian Open. Some of the most legendary names in the sport have their name on the Stonehaven Cup, including Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Tom Watson and Arnold Palmer.

After its successful introduction last year Australian Open Radio will again be available to fans as they follow the action around the course. Fans who attended last years event and still have their radio earpieces should bring it with them again this year as they will be fully compatible with the broadcasts.
