Australia v New Zealand

August 8, 2015 by Kevin Moody 1 Comment

With the Rugby World Cup just weeks away the Wallabies will look to strike a blow against the All Blacks in their Bledisloe Cup encounter at ANZ Stadium. Both sides have registered two wins from two games in the SANZAR Rugby Championship, so the game will also decide the outcome of this years’s shortened version of the tournament.

As part of the build-up to the match there are a number of events taking place across Sydney. Ticket holders for the game can also get free entry to the Bledisloe Cup Festival Race Day at Royal Randwick earlier in the day.

Pre-purchased tickets include return travel via public transport to Olympic Park. Tickets are also valid on Sydney Olympic Park Special Event Buses running on the usual routes. Direct trains are also in operation between Central and Olympic Park, as well as the sprint line from Lidcombe. Fans are strongly advised to make use of public transport, with the Netball World Cup and a major food fair also taking place in the precinct on the day.

Bledisloe Cup Festival Race Day

August 8, 2015 by Kevin Moody Leave a Comment

In celebration of one of the most anticipated sports events of the year winter racing at Royal Randwick presents the Bledisloe Cup Festival Race Day. Enjoy the build-up to the Wallabies versus All Blacks showdown with all Bledisloe Cup ticket holders and ANZ Stadium members receiving FREE entry to the race day.

The on track action includes Sydney’s first weight-for-age race of the season – the $175,000 Group 2 Missile Stakes. Aussies and Kiwis will go head to head in the feature race, with early bragging rights up for grabs ahead of the big match. The early favourite for the Missile Stakes is the Team Hawkes trained Messene, and punters will be hoping jockey Tommy Berry can give the Aussies a good start to the day.

For General Admission attendees take advantage of a Winter Super Saver, $5 Tap beer and ATC Rewards.

Bledisloe Cup opener to decide Rugby Championship

August 7, 2015 by Kevin Moody

The Wallabies and All Blacks in action in a Bledisloe Cup encounter

With the Rugby World Cup just weeks away the Wallabies will look to strike a blow against the All Blacks in their opening Bledisloe Cup encounter at ANZ Stadium. Both sides have registered two wins from two games in the SANZAR Rugby Championship, so the game will also decide the outcome of this years’s shortened version of the tournament.

Matt Giteau returns to the Wallabies squad after suffering an injury earlier in the campaign, and Michael Hooper and David Pocock have been restored to the starting side. Wycliff Palu also returns after being rested at the conclusion of the Super Rugby season, while Toby Smith could potentially make his international debut.

Wallabies well placed for Bledisloe glory

July 26, 2014 by Kevin Moody

Can Israel Folau inspire the Wallabies to first Bledisloe Cup series win in over a decade?

Can Israel Folau inspire the Wallabies to first Bledisloe Cup series win in over a decade?

The 2014 Rugby Championship begins with a Bledisloe Cup encounter between Australia and New Zealand at ANZ Stadium on August 16th. The Wallabies are carrying form into this year’s series that suggests they can finally break an eleven year losing sequence against the Kiwi’s. With the third and potentially deciding Bledisloe Cup game being held in Brisbane, Australia can strike a significant psychological blow by taking a series lead in Sydney.

Ewen McKenzie has named his team to face the All Blacks, who are on the verge of setting a new record for consecutive victories in international rugby. The NSW Waratahs and ACT Brumbies dominate the team sheet, reflecting the fact the two outfits were by far the strongest in the Australian conference in the 2014 Super Rugby season.

Kurtley Beale will be looking to impress potential employers in both union and league. Beale has been named at number 10 ahead of Waratahs teammate Bernard Foley, despite Foley playing there ahead of Beale for the entire Super Rugby campaign. While most people believe he will play in the NRL in 2015, a run of games in the Wallabies’ starting side may convince Beale to stay put with a World Cup just over a year away.

The clean sweep of France in the recent test series stretched Australia’s winning run to seven games. A win in the opening match will set the Wallabies on their way to potential glory in the Bledisloe series, and the Rugby Championship itself.

Wallabies hope to find missing link to bring Bledisloe home

August 16, 2013 by Kevin Moody

After the disappointment of a series defeat to the British and Irish Lions a new era for Australian Rugby Union begins on Saturday night at ANZ Stadium. New Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie will get a baptism of fire as his first task is to wrestle the Bledisloe Cup away from the All Blacks for the first time in over a decade.

The Wallabies squad is dominated by Brumbies players – ten in total – including Matt Toomua who will make his debut at fly half. He is joined by four others earning their first caps, in stark contrast to the All Blacks who have nearly 900 caps between them. Skipper Richie McCaw makes his first appearance for the Kiwis since taking a break from the game, but their star fly half Dan Carter has been ruled out with a calf injury.

Tickets for this opening match of the Rugby Championship are still available in most areas of the stadium, but we can point you in the direction of a great opportunity to secure tickets in Gold seating areas for 50% off the regular price. You need to sign up to this website, but if you are also a fan of music, theatre and comedy you may find plenty of similar offers that take your fancy.

Out tip – Wallabies to get Bledisloe campaign off to a great start.

In the NRL there is a local derby at WIN Stadium Wollongong on Saturday night as the St George Illawarra Dragons take on the Cronulla Sharks. With the Dragons out of finals contention their motivation here is to put a dent in the finals hopes of their rivals. If they are to succeed the will have to do so without two key men after losing Trent Merrin and Josh Dugan to season ending injuries this week.

The injury news is slightly better for the Sharks as they welcome back Beau Ryan after seven weeks out with a knee injury, while Anthony Tupou also returns. The good news is tempered by the loss of Wade Graham to a shoulder injury. Those who do take the field for the Sharks will have to be in their best form if they are to take home the Monty Porter Cup. The Sharks have not won in Wollongong since 1989.
