Two winners from the opening round of the Big Bash League meet at the SCG on Sunday night as Sydney Sixers host Melbourne Stars. Both sides won their respective derbies last week and will be full of confidence going into round two.
The Sixers will have Marcus North available after he missed the Sydney derby against the Thunder through illness. North will be looking to bring to the Big Bash the form he has shown in the Sheffield Shield, where he is the highest run scorer this season.
Brett Lee will take to the SCG fresh from his entertaining encounter with Piers Morgan in the MCG nets. As we predicted last week, Lee showed again that he is still capable of highly effective bowling in the shortest format of the game, particularly at the death.
The Stars will be able to add a couple of internationals to their squad this week. Sri Lankan paceman Lasinth Malinga has arrived in Australia for the remainder of the competition, while James Faulkener has been released from the Australian Ashes squad.
The addition of Malinga to the Star’s attack is an awesome prospect in Twenty20 cricket, especially when you consider Jackson Bird’s effort of 4/31 from four overs last week against the Renegades. With this attack complementing a batting order featuring some of the highest run scorers in the history of the 20 over game, it is easy to see why the Stars are the competition favourites.
