Sydney FC open the new A –League season at Allianz Stadium on Friday night hoping to restore their status as one of the championship contenders. With only one finals appearance in the past three seasons it has been a frustrating time for Sky Blues supporters. It is vital they get this campaign of to a good start, beginning with Friday night’s game against Newcastle Jets.
Last season began slowly for Sydney FC, following on from a pre-season disrupted by injuries and cancelled trial matches. Four wins and two draws from the opening fifteen games left a mountain to climb to reach the finals. Considering they eventually missed out by goal difference only, it is not difficult to see where the improvement can be made.
Sydney FC are currently unbeaten at home since November 23rd of last year, and it is this strong home form that needs to be the platform for a push for the big prizes. Seven of their twelve A-League fixtures before the turn of the year are at Allianz Stadium. That is 21 points up for grabs, and securing the majority of those points – along with a decent return away from home – will set up nicely a run to the finals.
Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero returns for his second season, and has been named as the new club captain. He is joined this year by a host of new recruits, most notably Pedj Bojic from the Mariners and Richard Garcia from Melbourne Heart.
There is still time to secure a great deal for entry to the first three home games of the season at Allianz Stadium. Starting from just $80.00, this Blockbuster Pack includes this weekend’s match against the Jets, the Sydney Derby against the Wanderers later this month, and finally the early November showdown against bitter rivals Melbourne Victory. As with all Sydney FC memberships, public transport to and from the stadium on match days is included in the cost.
