After a mid-season dip defending NRL premiers South Sydney Rabbitohs have their sights set on a spot in the top four. On Saturday night they host Newcastle Knights at ANZ Stadium as the race for spots in the finals heats up.
The Rabbitohs’ inconsistency has seen them fail to register back to back wins since before the State of Origin series. However, last weekend’s win over the Dragons at the SCG contained glimpses of the kind of form that secured the title in 2014.
Issac Luke returns to Souths’ starting side following a one week suspension. Keeping their big players on the field in the run to finals is key to the Rabbitohs’ chances of defending their crown.
Their season so far has been significantly disrupted by injuries to the likes of Adam Reynolds and Glenn Stewart, who are now back in the side and finding their way back to their best form. Greg Inglis also looked closer to his usual self against the Dragons with his Origin commitments out of the way for another year.
The Knights arrive at ANZ Stadium off the back of a first win in six games, and only their second since round five. While the win over the Titans will provide a boost in confidence the challenge posed by the Rabbitohs will be considerably harder to overcome.
Gates open at ANZ Stadium at 17:00 with the Holden Cup match kicking off shortly after. All pre-purchased tickets include free return rail travel to Olympic Park.
