Central Coast Mariners will look to register back to back victories in the A-League for the first time this season when they host Melbourne Heart at Bluetongue stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Mariners should be in a postive mood after their dramatic 96th minute winner against Perth on New Years Eve.
Michael McGlinchey scored that late winner against the Glory, and on Sunday he will make his final appearance for the Mariners before departing on a loan move to Japan. Mariners fans would love to farewell the Kiwi international with another victory.
The Mariners will be without Marcos Flores after his season was ended by a knee injury suffered in training. With McGlinchey and Flores gone – and Adam Kwasnik confirmed as not available for the remainder of the season – the Mariners will look for more additions in the January Transfer window to accompany the returning Bernie Ibini.
Melbourne Heart were last in action nine days ago, losing at home to Wellington Phoenix. After a winless streak of 17 games coach John Aloisi was sacked in the aftermath. The Heart had put in some better performances in recent weeks, most notably against the two Sydney clubs, however the woeful display against Wellington left the board with little option than to intervene. John van’t Schip has returned as interim manager until the end of the season.
