With the NBL finals now a little over a month away this weekend is shaping as make or break for Wollongong Hawks as they play two games in 24 hours. First up is a home match against Townsville Crocodiles, followed by the New South Wales derby with Sydney Kings on Saturday.
Friday night’s match at WIN Entertainment Centre is a great chance for Hawks fans to get out and support their team as they make a push for the playoffs. There have been low attendances at many home games this season, but a large portion of those games have been played at 2pm on Sundays. Hawks captain Oscar Forman quite rightly pointed out this week that in a summer competition that is always going to conflict with outdoor activities.
With time running out to make the play-offs, neither side can afford slip ups along the road. Both teams are in good form at the moment, the Hawks’ finals hopes looked dead and buried until a shock win over Adelaide last week, while the Crocs have won three in a row – a run that began with a win over the Hawks in round 16.
Rotnei Clarke only scored 12 points in that encounter, but the Hawks have shown recently that they can score points from other sources. Townsville cannot afford to concentrate solely on Clarke, with Kevin Tiggs among those who have stepped up in recent games.
