Wollongong Hawks will look to end the month of February as it began by beating Adelaide 36ers at WIN Entertainment Centre tonight. The Hawks have put together a sequence that nobody saw coming, and if they can record a fifth straight win they will keep in touch with the playoff places.
Coach Gordie McLeod deserves huge credit for not only turning around their mid-season dip, but for getting the best from a roster that many paid little attention to previously. Rotnei Clarke is a great example of this, receiving a player of the month award earlier in the season and may in contention for greater individual honours come seasons end.
The current winning run started against Adelaide on February 9th and another win over the second placed 36ers will leave no reason to ignore the Hawks chances of making the top four. The Hawks are not just scraping their wins either; they are doing it in style. The average score line in this current run is 96-77.
After losing fans earlier in the season the Hawks are trying to entice them back – along with new followers – with heavily reduced ticket prices. Entry to Friday night’s game is from as little as $40 for a family ticket. Another Friday night game is the ideal opportunity for fans to get out and cheer on the Hawks as they look to continue this improbable sequence, and to celebrate local product Tyson Demos making his 100th appearance.
