GWS Giants host Essendon Bombers in a rare Saturday night game at Spotless Stadium. Giants fans have been rejuvenated by their teams battling display last weekend, and are expected to head to the Olympic Park in good numbers.
The Giants restored some pride by running Hawthorn right down to the wire last weekend. This was off the back of consecutive 100 point losses. It was the kind of response that Giants fans wanted to see, a gutsy performance with plenty of aggression, as opposed to the tame surrenders of the previous weeks.
Jeremy Cameron is suspended for this match, and his previous form against Essendon suggests this will be a big blow for GWS. Cameron had kicked 13 goals in three games against the Bombers.
The Giants will hand a debut to young ruckman Rory Lobb, who at 206cm is the tallest player on the Giants’ list. Lobb has had to wait a long time to debut at the top level, having had jobs as a painter and decorator amongst other things.
Essendon arrive in Sydney on the back of a convincing win over Richmond which has left them just outside the top eight. In their three encounters with the Giants they have registered 116, 119 and 120 points. The Bombers will look to score heavily early in the game to set up a similar outcome, and take away any momentum the Giants bring into the game from last weekend.
