It’s a Family Fun-Day Sunday this week at WIN Entertainment Centre when Wollongong Hawks host New Zealand Breakers. Along with the family friendly afternoon start there are a number of activities before and after the game for the family to enjoy.
Those arriving early can take advantage of jumping castles, face painting and a petting zoo. After the game there will also be an autograph session on the court. Kid’s tickets are from just $12.00, and a family ticket from $49.00.
The Hawks were the surprise package of last season, with an amazing run of seven wins in their final nine games taking them to the playoffs. They also boasted the NBL‘s MVP in Rotnei Clarke.
Clarke earned himself a move to Europe, but the Hawks have retained the services of Tyson Demos, Oscar Forman and Larry Davidson. Big things are also expected of new recruits Gary Ervin and Jahii Carson. Ervin is himself a former MVP and a hero with the fans from his previous stint on the South Coast.
The Hawks are doing plenty to increase game day attendances this season. Their loyal supporters will be as vocal as ever, but the additional entertainment and introduction of seating closer to the court will hopefully attract new fans.
On the court it has been a tough start to the new season. Thursday night’s loss to Adelaide has left the Hawks at the foot of the ladder with one win from five in the new campaign.
They came within 3 points of defeating Cairns last Sunday, which is the closest anyone has got to the North Queenslanders so far this season. As their amazing run last year demonstrates, it is far too early to dismiss the Hawks’ chances of returning to the playoffs, and a good crowd on Sunday could provide the spark they need to turn things around.
