After three games without a win Sydney FC will be hunting three points against Wellington Phoenix to stay in contention at the top of the A-League ladder. The Sky Blues face a short turnaround from Saturdays game played in stifling heat in Perth, while Phoenix have stayed in Sydney since their defeat to the Wanderers earlier that day.
The draw in Perth maintained Sydney’s long unbeaten run on the road, however they have once again struggled to match this consistency on home turf. The have won just once in four home games so far this season, requiring a last-minute winner in the derby against the Wanderers.
Graham Arnold may rotate his squad as he attempts to break the winless run, with the likes of Andrew Hoole and Brandon O’Neill in contention for a recall. Central defender Jacques Faty is also back in Sydney after returning to France for personal reasons.
Phoenix will be without key defender Ben Sigmund after he suffered a head in jury at the weekend. Vince Lia is available again, and there could also be a return to Allianz Stadium for former Sydney FC forward Blake Powell. Powell was picked up by Wellington after impressing in the NPL NSW with Sydney club APIA Leichhardt.
